Two women arrested after year-long spree stealing from tourists in Benidorm

Thieves targeted holidaymakers when they were most distracted with their luggage

Two women have been arrested in Benidorm after almost a year of stealing from tourists as they checked in and out of hotels.

The pair, who travelled from Alicante, made a habit of prowling hotel entrances and public transport stops, waiting for the moment tourists were distracted with their luggage. According to the National Police, they often picked on elderly holidaymakers too, following them until they saw a chance to slip valuables from a bag or backpack.

Their method was simple but effective. One would keep a lookout while the other stole wallets, bags and anything else they could grab, before jumping into their car and speeding off. It worked for a long time, but after months of gathering evidence, officers managed to link the women to at least five thefts between September 2024 and March 2025. Police believe they may be responsible for even more.

Both women were already known to the police for previous similar offences, and after they were brought before a judge, a decision was made to ban them from a large part of central Benidorm. This covers the areas where they had been operating and where tourist numbers are highest.

The authorities hope the ban will help put an end to the pair’s activities and make Benidorm’s streets safer for visitors.
