Tributes paid to British holidaymaker found dead on Benidorm beach

Family and friends mourn the loss of Jeff Duffield after a desperate search ended in tragedy

Tributes have been pouring in for a British man who was found dead on a beach in Benidorm, just days after he was reported missing while on holiday.

Jeff Duffield, who lived in Middlesbrough with his wife, had been enjoying a trip to the popular Spanish resort when he disappeared on Wednesday April 23 at around 12.30pm. Concern grew quickly, and his wife issued a heartfelt appeal on Facebook shortly after he vanished.

“My husband Jeff Duffield has been missing in Benidorm since 12.30 on 23/04/2025,” she wrote in a local group. “I’ve reported it to police. If anyone sees him please could you contact me, I’m worried sick. Thank you.”

Sadly, Jeff’s body was found on a Benidorm beach the same day. At the time, a spokesperson from the Policía Nacional in Alicante confirmed that a body had been discovered but said it could not be formally identified, as the man had no ID on him.

In the days that followed, a family member confirmed the tragic news on social media.

“We have unfortunately found out that Jeff has passed away,” they wrote. “Thank you for all your lovely comments and please allow my mam the privacy she deserves.”

Police say they do not suspect any foul play and believe Jeff’s death was accidental.

Messages of sympathy and support have continued to appear online, with many expressing their sadness at the loss and offering condolences to Jeff’s family.
