Foreign student crushed to death in rubbish bin in Mallorca
The young girl’s remains were discovered at a rubbish dump in Palma de Mallorca

The skeletal remains of Agostina Rubini, a 24-year-old student from Argentina, have been found in a rubbish dump in Mallorca. Police believe that the young girl, who went missing back in October after a night out with friends in Palma, was crushed to death after climbing into a rubbish bin.
According to police reports, Agostina “voluntarily entered a (rubbish) container” and passed out. The public bin was collected a few hours later and dumped at the Son Reus landfill.
Agostina’s handbag was found on the ground beside the bin, sparking a month-long search of the rubbish dump. After sifting through 60,000 tonnes of waste, the student’s body was discovered when her phone’s location pinged.
The last time Agostina was seen alive was just before midnight on October 2, when she parted ways with friends she had been drinking with. It's believed that she was waiting for a bus to take her home to Palma Nova, a town located southwest of the main city.
Tragically, it's thought that she accidentally dropped her phone and, in a desperate attempt to retrieve it, climbed into the bin and lost consciousness.
A witness who was waiting for a bus just before Agostina's death reported seeing her handbag next to the container, but didn't think anything of it at the time. The witness, who was at the bus stop at 12.12am, didn't hear Agostina call for help or scream, and it wasn't until the binmen arrived at 12.27am to empty the bin that her fate was sealed.
The garbage truck, carrying a massive seven tonnes of rubbish, made its way to the dump, where Agostina's phone gave its final signal at 2am.
Investigating officers said it is “impossible to survive inside a rubbish truck” as there is very little oxygen.
Police chief Fernando Reboyras said: “She was a thin woman who had difficulty consuming alcohol.
“This was made worse by medication she was taking.”
