ARCHIVED - Sunday 23rd February Abanilla: Free guided visit to grain mill and source of the River Chícamo
This free Sunday morning route visits the charming municipality of Abanilla alongside the river
Abanilla is an attractive, characterful municipality, with beautiful areas of countryside and a wealth of interesting and colourful places to visit.
This free guided route shows how the waters of the River Chícamo have been exploited by local residents, for both irrigation and to drive the watermills which ground grain to make bread for centuries.
This visit includes a refurbished 19th century mill near to the source of the river and a pool which is home to the fartet, a species of fish which lives in saline water and is close to extinction, as well as exploring the river valley itself.
Comfortable clothing and shoes should be worn as the route includes uneven surfaces. Carry water, breakfast and suitable sun protection.
Start time: 10:00 am leaving from the parking area of the municipal swimming pool. (Av. Región de Murcia, 80, 30640 Abanilla, Murcia. Click for map: Avenida Región de Murcia, Abanilla).Own transport is required.
All of the commentary is in Spanish.
