Orihuela Costa residents are delighted to see repair work finally beginning on the scenic trail that runs through the Punta de la Glea microreserve in Campoamor, one of the most environmentally valuable and diverse nature reserves in this area of the Costa Blanca.
The walking path, which has fallen into disrepair over the past few years, will receive a complete overhaul to the tune of 19,121.87 euros.
"This is a necessary action to repair the state of this pedestrian path so that we can guarantee the safety of pedestrians and visitors, while guaranteeing the care of the natural environment," explains Orihuela's Councillor for the Environment, Noelia Grao, who acknowledges that "the fence was very deteriorated, there were overturned and broken posts in the ground and holes were visible."

Once the work is finished, "we will once again enjoy this wonderful trail that increasingly attracts a greater number of visitors because it is in a unique enclave on our coast," the councillor added.
As far back as last summer, locals were voicing their complaints about the state of the path through the Cabo Roig and Lomas Neighbourhood Association, which demanded more responsibility from the government in maintaining this vital protected space between Cabo Roig and Campoamor.
At the time, several branches and trees had tumbled onto the trail, resulting in an obvious fire risk, but these have since been removed.
