ARCHIVED - Police probe into needle spiking attacks in two Murcia towns
Two teenage girls were allegedly targeted in La Manga del Mar Menor and Mazarrón at the weekend
Police in the Region of Murcia are investigating two new suspected needle spiking attacks, in this case minors who claim to have been injected at "leisure areas" in La Manga del Mar Menor and Mazarrón at the weekend.
The new shocking crime wave is sweeping Spain, with new reports surfacing on an almost a weekly basis.
The figure has now risen to three in the Region, with one of the latest incidents allegedly taking place at a well-known disco in Cartagena on Saturday night, August 6.
After feeling sick and calling for help, the young female was first attended by a medic who confirmed the victim had a puncture wound from a needle and the girl was taken to Santa Lucía hospital in Cartagena for a full examination.
In line with the Region's protocol, toxicological analyses must be carried out on suspected cases of this kind and the health authorities insist that victims should go to their nearest hospital as soon as possible to try to locate toxic substances in their blood that could be evidence of an attack.
This particular case has been handed over to the Guardia Civil, which has already opened an investigation.
The National Police are investigating another suspected needle attack against another female who was taken to Santa Lucía hospital with symptoms of chemical submission by pricking. These can include pain, dizziness, nausea and fainting.
According to police sources, the young teenager appeared "weak, semi-conscious, and had a mark on her right thigh compatible with a puncture".
She told officers she had been on a beach in Mazarrón when a boy she didn't know approached her, grabbed her by the arm and stabbed her in the thigh.
Police are still probing an earlier complaint from a young woman who was reportedly syringe-attacked at a discotheque in Mazarrón.
