ARCHIVED - Saturday 28th March 2020 Route of the Fortresses in Cartagena
The Ruta de las Fortalezas is a gruelling 50km race between the military fortresses of Cartagena
The XI Ruta de las Fortelezas is on Saturday 28th March 2020.
La Ruta de las Fortelezas in Cartagena is a gruelling race, covering a distance of 50 kilometres over the rough terrain between the major fortifications and military batteries around Cartagena and is taking place on the 28th March in 2020.
The race begins at 08:05 leaving from the Town Hall and Plaza Héroes de Cavite, following a route comprising:el Calvario, el Castillo de San Julián, Trincabotijas, Batería de Santa Florentina, Castillo de la Concepción, Batería General Fajardo, Castillo de Galeras, Castillo de la Atalaya y Batería de Roldán, and concluding in the Escuela de Infantería de Marina in Tentegorra.
The finishing line is closed off at 8pm in the evening as 12 hours is given for the 4,000 competitors to complete the course, so expect generalised disruption in the city early in the morning as the race leaves and en-route.
There are also shorter races for juveniles (their race departs at 09:00) and younger children who have a mini version of the race which takes place at 18:00 on the 27th March.
There are many places along the route from which general public can watch the race unfold and a vast logistical support operation also oversees the proceedings, looking after the thousands of runners who have come from all over Spain and abroad to participate.
More information about Cartagena can be found in the dedicated Cartagena section, accessed via the map box at the bottom of every page
