ARCHIVED - More than 100K passengers use Corvera airport in a month for the first time since 2019
Murcia airport is coming close to recovering its pre-pandemic levels
Corvera airport is close to a full recovery of its pre-pandemic service, with 107,220 passengers using the airport this June, despite the highly publicised travel disruption this summer. This represents 80% of the number of passengers during the same period of 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic.
In any case, the airport, which officially (and controversially) changed its name this year to Aeropuerto Internacional de la Región de Murcia-Juan de la Cierva, still has a long way to go to fully reach the pre-Covid figures because, although it is getting closer and closer to the target, it would still have needed another 30,000 passengers to reach the 133,920 who went through the airport in June 2019.

Logically, the latest figures are much higher than last year, when the pandemic was in full swing. Compared to the same month in 2021, Corvera airport received almost 600% more passengers this June.
In terms of the number of flights, the airport handled 815 flights last month, 163% more than in 2021 but 16.1% fewer than in 2019.
350,000 passengers so far this year
Between January and June this year, Corvera airport saw a total of 349,466 people pass through its terminal. This exceeds the 2021 figures by 1,218%, but is less than three-quarters the number of people who used the airport in the first half in 2019.
