ARCHIVED - 186 active cases in the Murcia Region today with little change from yesterday
New cases have been detected in 16 municipalities during the last two weeks

On Wednesday the Murcian Health Service published its latest epidemiological report which gives a lot of detail about the development of the epidemic, detailing not only the numbers of cases, but also information about the age of the patients, where they are from, sex, where they have been admitted to hospital etc, a huge volume of information, most of which is of little interest to the majority of us.
The most important data for those living here is to understand where the active cases are, and this information is normally published on a Wednesday, but this week has failed to materialize, as the reporting system is being endlessly modified.
The Ministry of Health changed the criteria yet again yesterday, so now our region must present data at lunchtime instead of in the evening, so the data we have today is virtually unchanged from yesterday other than for one new death which occurred yesterday afternoon.
What we do have access to now is information about where the new cases are coming from, showing where the virus is still believed to be active in the region.
Logically, Murcia city, which has the highest population of residents in the most concentrated area, still has the highest number of new cases, with 13, but the most pre-occupying outbreak in the last fortnight has been the situation in Totana in which six agricultural workers were found to be positive on Friday, followed by the enforced quarantining of a further 45 people who were their close associates and fellow workers.
In most other areas the new cases are few and far between and are all in the inland areas of the region; none of the coastal areas have recorded any new cases.(see below for detail)
One interesting little set of stats to come out of this detail is the average age of the patients: the average age of patients is 52, and only 2.2% of cases are in those aged 15 and less.
65% of fatalities in the region, of which there are now 148, were aged over 80.
Sixteen municipalities have registered new cases in the last 2 weeks:
Alcantarilla 2
Alhama de Murcia 1
Calasparra 2
Campos del Río 1
Caravaca de la Cruz 2
Cartagena 4
Cieza 6
Fortuna 1
Jumilla 5
Lorca 7
Murcia 13
Santomera 1
Torre de Cotillas 1
Totana 8
La Unión 1
Yecla 4
Although the number of cases in the region remains low, and as of today we have 186 cases still active, the message from the regional government remains; don´t be complacent, the virus is still very dangerous and is still active, so stay at home unless absolutely necessary and be careful. The wearing of masks in public places where social distancing is not possible becomes compulsory from today.
